The average global temperature of the land and oceans in September this year was 0.95 degrees Celsius above the 20th century average. This September was the 43rd consecutive September and the 417th consecutive month, with temperatures well above the average of the previous century.
At the same time, the first nine-month period January-September 2019 was the second warmest in history (the first nine-month record holds in 2016). After that, NOAA estimates that 2019 will almost certainly be the second hottest year after 2016.
